Our Philosophy

It’s an interesting time to be in the plastic bag business. If it were the 1950’s, Moutray and Meadows would be hosting the best Tupperware parties — marveling at colorful, unbreakable dishes with all the promise of innovative materials. What they wouldn't have know then, was that plastic would become disposable. Nowadays, everyone wants to do their best for the earth, and brings reusable grocery bags to the store. Then you look down in the cart, and almost everything is packaged in single-use plastic.

At Buena Goods, we believe in the right material for the job. Sometimes adobe brick is the right for a house and sometimes its energy-efficient, prefabbed panels. Our mesh IS the perfect material for the beach bag. It's breathable, so it's not afraid of a soaked wetsuit — sand goes in, sand goes out. It won’t mildew or fade from sun or weather like a natural fiber can.

Fun is a core value at Buena Goods. Color speaks to something primal in us — an unconscious kind of joy. Plastic takes pigments and colorants exceptionally well and they stay bright. Our customers fall in love with a particular color combination and then they treasure that bag. Michael Buckley always says, “The highest order of sustainability is beauty.” If something is beautifully designed, it is less likely to be considered disposable. When you love your bag, you’ll take good care of it and repair rather than replace. During its long life, your Buena Goods bag will replace many grocery store freebies — bags that, joy-wise, weren't bringing much of it anyways.
